Day #427 - Discernment - Micayla Robertson

Dear God I’m Grateful For Discernment

“The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.” – Proverbs‬ ‭16:21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Discernment is defined as perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtain spiritual guidance and understanding.

As children of God the Holy Spirit guides and leads us through discernment, always advocating on our behalf. But there is also a spiritual gift of discernment that allows those who receive it to see true spiritual intentions regardless of words or thoughts.

1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬ says, “He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.”

According to Job, “The ear tests the words it hears just as the mouth distinguishes between foods.’ So let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good.”

‭‭Job‬ ‭34:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Discernment maintains order in the kingdom of God, while also distinguishing righteousness from worldly and self-righteous teachings. Like Knowledge, wisdom, and understanding we should also seek discernment and what it good; for with it, we will be able to clearly recognize and follow the Spirit of God, not falling for the schemes of the enemy.

“Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.” – Hosea‬ ‭14:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬
