Day #132 – Calming Storms
Dear God I’m Grateful for Calming Storms

There’s a passage in Mark 4 that tells the story of Jesus calming a storm. While others panicked in fear of death, he slept soundly as high winds, heavy waves, and pouring rain rocked the boat.

“As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!””

During our travel, we faced a crazy storm. The wind was strong enough to move the car, the rain was so thick you couldn’t see through it and the entire south central region of the U.S.was under a severe thunder storm and tornado watch. Of course we had no idea until we found ourselves in the middle of storm, and just the feeling of anxiety was near as we weathered our way through this terrible storm.

The passage in Mark keep me at peace because it reminded me that Jesus has the power to calm any storm in our lives with 3 simple words, “Silence! Be Still”.

If you find yourself caught in a physical storm or your situation in life causes a mental, emotional, or financial storm, remember that Jesus can bring you peace, all you have to do is place your faith in him.
