Day #116 – Photographs
Dear God I’m Grateful For Photographs
.
Photos tell the stories of history and memories we may or may not remember. They capture time in a single moment that we can always reflect on and show us a visual of the past, taking us back to a memory of what was.
.
Yesterday I received a photo of my dad and I when I was a little girl. I couldn’t have been older than 2 or 3 years old, and I honestly don’t remember it at all.
.
In the image, my dad wore a brown jacket with a gray sweater and black tee underneath. He wore dark blue jeans with a burgundy Fannie pack around his waist, and a black baseball cap with Malcolm X stitched across the front panel.
.
He held me in his arms as he kissed my cheek while smiling at the camera, and I wore a teal onesie, smiling back at the camera in the arms of my father.
.
Yesterday was the first time I had ever seen this image. He clothing alone told the story of a different time and his youth made me smile as I don’t ever remember him looking that young. It’s amazing how quickly time has flown since that moment, and even more amazing how that one photograph now serves as a cherished memory since he’s been gone.
.
There’s a saying that says, “take a picture, it’ll last longer”, but however they meant it, it holds so much truth. The photographs we take now will tell the story of our history in the future and may become another cherished memory to reflect on for the next generation.
