Day #109 - Disappointment - Micayla Robertson

Dear God I’m Grateful For Disappointment

As often as we try to avoid disappointment, sometimes it can be meant for our good!

Personally I’ve aimed to spend at least one moment every day in the YouVersion Bible App. The app keeps track of your reading streak and marks each day you open it and read the scripture of the day.

For months, I’ve opened my app and read that scripture, but yesterday, after recording Dear God I’m Grateful, I thought I opened the app since I clearly had scriptures pulled for the episode. It turns out, the scriptures I pulled where read the night before, so I was extremely disappointed when I opened the app this morning and saw my reading streak drop from 294 days to day 1.

This honestly brought me to tears as I tried to apologize to God for missing a day and beating myself up for a lack of consistency. But as I sat in my tears of disappointment, I felt the Holy Spirit ask me if I was reading the Bible app everyday to draw closer to God or for my own personal gain and the satisfaction of saying I opened it another day?

This hit deep as I had to check myself and realized that even though I used the scripture of the day to snack on the Bible, I wasn’t truly seeking deeper revelations and connections every single day. Some days study was involved, but most days the app was opened to read the scripture, get the credit, and go about my day.

How many of us are checking off boxes to spend time with God instead of truly spending time with him?

Although It hurt to have to start over, I’m grateful that I disappointed myself, because now I can start fresh and create genuine study habits that no longer disappoint God.
