Day #83 – Discernment

Dear God I’m Grateful For Discernment

.

In Christian context, discernment is defined as perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual guidance and understanding.

.

Discernment is a gift as those who have it are easily able to navigate situations, conversations, relationships, and spiritual truths. Those with discernment can tell whether is a spirit of God and they can usually guide people back to the Lord.

.

“He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

.

I have found that the gift of discernment is a blessing when given to someone close to you. Tonight my husband discerned that something in my spirit was bothering me. Without a word he knew that I needed help and sat me down for a conversation. Although I was hesitant to discuss what I was battling, I opened up and revealed the level grief I had been experiencing silently regarding the death of my dad. While I believed I could have done more for my dad spiritually, (like pray for him more, read with him, study him him, etc) my husband revealed to me that I played no part in what happened to my father. He was able to help me through my emotions and guide me back to the Word.

.

I don’t want to say that there’s a wrong way to grieve, because everyone grieves differently. But to blame yourself and open your spirit to negative thoughts and beliefs  is definitely not healthy for anyone’s grief. I am so grateful for my husband and his spirit of discernment. Together we were able to find peace in trusting the Lord with my grief.

.

So let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good.”

‭‭(Job‬ ‭34:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

‭‭(2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬)
