Day #169 - I Am Free - Micayla Robertson

Dear God I’m Grateful That I Am Free

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” – John‬ ‭8:36‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Today is the 4th of July, otherwise known in America as Independence Day, a day where Americans celebrate their independence from Great Britain. While not everyone agrees with the holiday since minorities were still enslaved when this day actually became a holiday, days of celebration like Juneteenth established this year, also became a national holiday to celebrate the emancipation of African American slaves.

While the history of America is interesting, what speaks to me most is biblical history, seeing that the day that Jesus died on the cross marks the day that all people were freed.

This day came before the 4th of July, before Juneteenth, and before we could experience eternal life with our Heavenly Father. Our freedom came at the price of one man’s life and this man was Jesus Christ. Jesus sacrificed himself for a people who were lost, saving them from sin that would have kept us bound for eternity. Not only was he born free, but He is freedom and he brings freedom to all who believe.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Although racism, war, division, hate, and tragedy continued in the world after the death of Jesus, I thank God that we are called to use our freedom to imitate Christ in love.

“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” – Galatians‬ ‭5:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So today and everyday, I celebrate Freedom in Christ, for it is only through Jesus Christ that we have truly been set free.

“So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” – Galatians‬ ‭5:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬
