Day #218 - The Gift To Smile - Micayla Robertson

Dear God I’m Grateful For The Gift To Smile

“Your teeth are as white as sheep, recently shorn and freshly washed. Your smile is flawless, each tooth matched with its twin.” – Song of Songs‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

After watching a video of Tabitha Brown (@iamtabithabrown) tell the story of her mother who passed of ALS, her message resonated so deeply with me, I had to make it the focus of gratitude today.

Tabitha explained that her mother was a beautiful soul who always loved to smile. She said that her smile would light up a room, but during her last days after suffering from ALS, she lost the ability to smile.

While my initial thought was that pain and dark days kept her from smiling, I continued listening to find out that her mother physically lost the ability to smile.

One of the side effects of ALS is loss of muscle function, and though we don’t really think about it, it takes facial muscles to form a smile. Tabitha explained how smiling is a gift and blessing and that we should all find our reason to smile.

I encourage you to check out her IG video titled “Find Your Reason To Smile” posted on 7/20, and today my reason for smiling is the gift that is a smile. A smile can not only brighten someone else’s day, it can also brighten your own. God has blessed us with the gift of smiling so let us use this gift to love on others and change the atmosphere around us.
