Day #267 - Determination - Micayla Robertson

Dear God I’m Grateful For Determination

Today is what would have been my Dad’s 57th birthday. He passed last December. However, he would always say to me, “You can do anything you set your mind to baby girl”.

I remember telling my dad almost 4 years ago that I was going to get my real estate license. I signed up for the online course, started off strong, lost focus, and then kept delaying it. I would study for a couple of weeks, fall off and then try to pick back up, knowing I didn’t remember a thing I studied before.

I was also trying to balance 2 full time jobs, being a wife, building a business, and honestly, that real estate license seemed further and further away.

Every week, my dad would call and check in on my studying. I’d tell him that I was still enrolled in the class, I just haven’t prioritized it. His words were always, “You can do anything you set your mind too baby girl. Go ahead and get your L’s.”

Every week we would have that conversation and every week I would study for a day and then lose focus. That lasted 3 years and I was enrolled in that same online course the entries time, asking for extensions and making little to no progress.

Before he passed, my dad and I had a conversation where he asked if I was ever going to finish my class. I told him I was focused on other things but eventually I’d get back to it. For the last time I heard him say, “You can do anything you set your mind too baby girl. Go ahead and get your L’s.”

This year I made it a goal to get my license before his birthday. I finished my course, applied to take my exam, waited 3 months for an exam date and scheduled my test 2 days before his birthday. I wanted it to be a gift to him, and I was determined to pass on the first try, regardless of how many people warned me how difficult that is.

October 8th I passed my test, and today, October 10th, I celebrate the man who always encouraged me to go for better. I set my mind on passing that test and Lord willing it came to pass. Happy Heavenly Birthday Daddy. I finally got my L’s.
