Day #290 – Letting Go
Dear God I’m Grateful For Letting Go
.
How many of us attach the memory of someone we know to a thing that we cherish?
.
And what happens when the person is gone and the thing is gone, and all you have is the memory? Is it enough?
.
So often, we hold on to relationships and things that have surpassed their season or hang on to unhealthy attachments.
.
This week, I’ve learned that letting go is best way to find peace and this lesson came through selling my car.
.
Although I’ve talked about getting a new car for years, it came as a surprise when I had a panic attack when I went to actually sell the car. Unintentionally, I associated the car with the memory of my father and the thought of letting it go felt like I was losing him all over again.
.
I knew I needed a new vehicle, I knew it was getting older, I knew that it was time to let go and I prayed everyday that my brakes wouldn’t give out and I put more money into the car than I honestly should have. My spirit was ready to release it, but my flesh fought back with fear, pain, and endless tears because I had developed an unhealthy attachment to a thing, that I knew was only a thing.

But after the tears stopped and trust in the Lord set in, I let it go. And not only did the Lord bring me peace, but he brought an unexpected blessing and nothing but favor in the process.
.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Let go and let God have his way.
