Day #91 – Self Control
Dear God I’m Grateful For Self Control
.
Another one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is self control, and although it may come easy to some, it is a gift and a blessing to so many more.
.
Control is defined as the power to influence and to have self control is to have the ability to control oneself, in particular our emotions and desires or the expression of them in our behavior.
.
“Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city.” – Proverbs 16:32 NLT
.
When it comes to the topic of self control, most immediately think of the ability to resist sexual temptations or lust, but I encourage you to think further and really look at every area where we have the power to exhibit self control.

When we eat, when we shop, when we speak, when we think, how we move, where we go, and how we respond are all actions that’s require a sense of self control. Temptations may come in many forms, but self control stops us from giving into temptation and resisting the influence.

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” -1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT

According to 2 Peter 1: 5-8, a great way for resist temptation and honor God is to supplement our faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more we grow like this, the more productive and useful we will be in our knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
