As a child, I always had a deep fascination with stories, envisioning a future where I’d travel the world, collecting and sharing the diverse stories of people. Little did I know that this childhood desire was a divine calling, leading me to the faith-based storytelling mission I’m on today. In this episode, I want to share a transformative method of studying the Bible – a method the Lord revealed to me a couple of years ago.

10 Key Takeaways from the STORY Method
Before delving into the practical application of the story method, let’s reflect on ten key takeaways or quotes from the text:
- “The words that we speak and the way we speak them are the stories we tell.”
- “The Bible is not just imaginary or fictitious; it is a real witness account of significant events.”
- “In order not to repeat history, we must understand the stories told in the Bible.”
- “The story method: S for Strength, T for Technique, O for Obstacles, R for Relationships, and Y for Your Why.”
- “Jesus was a storyteller, using parables – earthly stories with heavenly meanings.”
- “The secrets of the kingdom of God are revealed through parables and stories.”
- “Our hearts’ posture determines our ability to receive the Word of God.”
- “Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the Word of God.”
- “Our stories are seeds, and sharing them plants the Word of God in others’ hearts.”
- “The story of the Good News unfolds through our testimonies and the stories in the Bible.”
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7
Here Are 5 Faith Steps You Can Take To Apply the S.T.O.R.Y. Method To Your Bible Study Routine
Step 1: Strength (S) – Reflect on Your Ability to Withstand Pressures
Begin your study by identifying the strengths exhibited in the stories you read. How did individuals withstand pressures – physically, mentally, and emotionally? Reflect on your strengths and how they align with the challenges you face.
Step 2: Technique (T) – Understand the Execution of God’s Will
Dive into the techniques employed in the stories. How did they execute God’s will? What methods did they use to carry out their tasks? Consider how you can apply these techniques in your own life to align with God’s plan.
Step 3: Obstacles (O) – Identify and Overcome Hindrances
Recognize the obstacles that hindered progress in the stories. What blocked their way, and how did they overcome? Relate these obstacles to your life, acknowledging and strategizing ways to overcome your own hindrances.
Step 4: Relationships (R) – Explore Connections with God and Others
Delve into the relationships depicted in the stories – connections by blood or marriage. How are these stories connected to Christ, and how do they mirror your relationships? Consider the role of relationships in your faith journey and strengthen your connections with God and others.
Step 5: Your Why (Y) – Uncover the Purpose Behind Your Story
Finally, contemplate the cause, reason, or purpose for your Bible study. Why are you engaging with the Word of God? What purpose does it serve in your life? Understanding your ‘why’ enhances the significance of your story and deepens your connection with God’s overarching purpose.
As we continue this journey of faith-based storytelling, remember that your story is an integral part of God’s larger narrative. Embrace the story method, share your testimonies, and watch as the Word of God comes alive in your life and the lives of those around you.
May your faith be strengthened, your techniques refined, your obstacles overcome, your relationships deepened, and your ‘why’ illuminated as you walk the path of a faith-based storyteller. Until next time, stay blessed and continue sharing the Good News through your unique story.
